Disney/Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 appears to have little competition in its second weekend of theatrical release, with the action comedy about a group of superhero misfits projected to generate upwards of $50 million in ticket sales through Mother’s Day (May 14), according to new data from Box Office Pro.

The tally would mark a steep decline from last weekend’s $118 million debut, but add significantly to Vol. 3’s $145.5 million in North American ticket sales, $365.6 million globally.

Universal Pictures’ current 2023 box office leader The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks to add $15 million in revenue, pushing the animated feature’s North American gross past $538 million, $1.3 billion worldwide.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Evil Dead Rising is projected to add $3.8 million in ticket sales, upping the erstwhile HBO Max original movie’s domestic haul to near $60 million, $120 million globally.

That won’t be enough to supplant Focus Features’ new sequel Book Club: The Next Chapter, which is expected to tally $8.3 million in ticket sales following picking up $550,000 in special Thursday screening revenue. The movie co-stars  Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen as four best friends who take their book club to Italy for the fun girls trip they never had.
