The weekend box office through June 11 poses a true theatrical battle between reigning champ, Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Paramount Pictures’ 10th installment in the Hasbro-inspired “Transformers” franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Both movies target younger male moviegoers, with Across the Spider-Verse climbing high following a $120.5 million opening weekend box office. While its sophomore weekend is projected to drop almost 60% in revenue, the tally could still be enough to hold off Rise of the Beasts, which is projected to sell $49.5 million worth of tickets, according to new data from Box Office Pro.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid should round out the weekend podium with another $25 million in revenue in its third weekend of release, bringing the live-action reboot’s global tally near $375 million.

Disney/Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 should add another $6.7 million to up its North American tally past $330 million. It should finish just ahead of The Boogeyman, the erstwhile Hulu original movie that was instead released theatrically by Disney-owned 20th Century Studios to strong ticket sales. The horror movie is projected to add $5.7 million in revenue to its current $24 million global box office.

Returning theatrical releases include Universal Pictures’ Fast X ($5.5 million) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie with $2 million. The latter remains the No. 1 theatrical release in 2023 with more than $1.3 billion in ticket sales.

Other releases include the Lionsgate comedy About My Father, starring Robert De Niro, with a projected $1.1 million in ticket sales, and Sony’s actioner The Machine ($500,000), and A24’s You Hurt My Feelings ($400,000).
