Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie remained No. 1 on the Circana VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, the week ended July 22.

It marks the third consecutive week the animated movie has been No. 1 on the overall disc sales chart, and the fourth time overall. Though the adaptation of the Nintendo video game franchise has been on shelves for six weeks since its street date, it had previously been the top seller in the week leading up to its official release thanks to early availability at the nation’s top brick-and-mortar retail chains.

No. 2 overall was Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4, which was released the same week as Super Mario Bros. and also was available early at some retailers. The Keanu Reeves actioner did manage to take the top spot on the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, with Super Mario Bros. at No. 2.

No. 3 overall and No. 4 on the Blu-ray Disc chart was Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: The Way of Water.

The week’s top newcomer, at No. 4 overall and No. 3 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, was HBO’s The Last of Us: The Complete First Season, from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. Based on the hit video game, “The Last of Us” takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. HD formats accounted for 67% of first-week “Last of Us” sales, with 33% from regular Blu-ray and 34% from 4K disc.

As a result, “Last of Us” was No. 1 on the dedicated 4K disc sales chart, with John Wick: Chapter 4 at No. 4 and the previous week’s top 4K seller, Paramount’s Scream VI, at No. 3.

Scream VI was No. 5 on the overall disc sales chart, down from No. 2 a week earlier, as well as No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart, down from No. 1 the previous week.

Another newcomer, Universal’s Kandahar, debuted at No. 6 on the overall disc sales chart and No. 7 on the Blu-ray chart. In the film, Gerard Butler reteams with action director Ric Roman Waugh to play an undercover CIA operative who is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all while avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.
