Warner Bros. Pictures’ Barbie shows no signs of relinquishing its hold on the global box office, adding another $52 million in estimated North American ticket sales through Aug. 6. The movie has now topped $1 billion in revenue worldwide after just 17 days of release.

The tally is enough to hold off Warner’s new release Meg 2: The Trench, which debuted with about $30 million in revenue — enough to top Universal Pictures’ biopic Oppenheimer at $28.7 million. At No. 4 was Paramount Pictures’ new release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which sold $28 million worth of tickets over the three-day weekend period, and $43 million across the first five days.

With a budget of $70 million, Mutant Mayhem is the best-reviewed animated film this year with a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and 93% Rotten Tomatoes audience rating, according to Chris Aronson, president domestic distribution at Paramount.

“With the majority of the international rollout to come and without another animated film opening within the next eight weeks, we expect to capitalize on being the only animated film in the marketplace for all audiences,” Aronson wrote in a media statement.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Haunted Mansion added $9 million in estimated weekend revenue to finish No. 5, upping its North American tally past $42 million, $59 million globally. A sluggish trend considering the movie’s reported $150 production budget. Finally, A24’s Talk to Me generated more than $6 million in its second weekend, to up its North American tally past $22 million.
