The Barbie Summer looks to continue, with Warner Bros. Pictures’ Barbie release set to command the fourth straight weekend at the box office with more than $35 million in estimated ticket sales across North American screens, according to Box Office Pro.

The feature film, based on the Mattel doll franchise, has dominated the global box office since its July 21 debut, topping $1 billion in ticket sales after just 17 days. Barbie is approaching the $500 million domestic benchmark as it eyes the year’s current No. 1, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, at $574.1 million.

Barbie’s summer shadow, Universal Pictures’ Oppenheimer should return to the No. 2 spot with a projected $19.6 million in ticket sales — enough to hold off last weekend’s No. 2, Warner sequel Meg 2: The Trench, the latter with an estimated $13.3 million in revenue for fourth place in its sophomore weekend.

Rounding out the podium should be Paramount Pictures’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem with $17.5 million in ticket sales in it second weekend of release, according to Box Office Pro.

The weekend’s lone new release, Universal’s The Last Voyage of the Demeter is projected to see about $8 million in ticket sales. Special Thursdays screening generated $750,000 — suggesting a rough start for the period merchant ship horror fantasy film.
