Max June 16 announced that New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures’ Evil Dead Rise will make its streaming debut on the SVOD platform on June 23. The movie will be released on packaged media June 27.

Originally slated to be a Max Original until it was diverted to a theatrical release that tallied a $146 million global box office, Evil Dead Rise underscores Warner Bros. Discovery’s new strategy of transitioning away from an “all-in” streaming mindset and embracing alternative distribution channels in order to mine incremental revenue opportunities.

Evil Dead Rise, written and directed by Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”) and produced by longtime franchise producer Robert Tapert (Don’t Breathe), stars Lily Sullivan (“I Met a Girl,” “Barkskins”), Alyssa Sutherland (“New Gold Mountain,” “Vikings”), Morgan Davies (“The End,” “Storm Boy”), Gabrielle Echols (“Reminiscence”) and introduces Nell Fisher (“Northspur”).

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, the movie tells a tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
