Horror Flick ‘Scream VI’ Debuts Atop the Weekly Vudu Chart

Scream VI

Stephanie Prange

Paramount’s Scream VI debuted atop the chart of the 10 most-popular films on Fandango’s transactional digital service Vudu the week ended April 30.

The horror film, the sixth in the franchise, became available for digital purchase (and also for streaming on Paramount+) April 25. In Scream VI, the four survivors from the most recent Woodsboro Ghostface killings have moved to New York City for a fresh start. But just as they begin to feel a sense of normalcy, they receive that infamous call.

Falling from the top spot to No. 2 on the chart was Disney’s Marvel Comics-based Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania , which became available for digital purchase April 18. In the third installment in the “Ant-Man” series, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and The Wasp. Together with Hope’s parents Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm.

Falling from No. 2 to No. 3 on the chart was the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water. The Disney-owned 20th Century Studios film, available for digital purchase, is director James Cameron’s sequel to 2009’s Avatar. The film, which received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, returns to the world of Pandora more than a decade after the events of the first film. It launches the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Falling from No. 3 to No. 4 on the chart was Sony Pictures’ the sci-fi thriller 65, available for premium digital rental and sale. The film stars Adam Driver as an astronaut who crash lands on a mysterious planet and discovers he’s not alone.

Based on characters from DC, the film continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “Shazam!,” is transformed into his adult superhero alter ego Shazam.
