The two titles in the top spots on last week’s national disc sales charts after being available early at retailers swapped places during the week of their official street dates.

Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 took over the No. 1 spot on the Circana VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales charts, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended June 17.

Meanwhile, the previous week’s top seller, Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie slipped to No. 2.

Both titles were announced with official June 13 street dates, but copies made their way to shelves a week early. With Walmart, Best Buy and Target all offering Super Mario Bros. in their physical stores June 6, it took the top sales spot, while the “John Wick” sequel was available only at Walmart for most of the week and sold about a third as many copies as Mario to take No. 2 (some other retailers began selling John Wick: Chapter 4 on June 9).

In the first week that both titles were available everywhere, Mario sold only about 72% as many copies as John Wick: Chapter 4. Rather than a surge in demand for Wick, however, the flip-flop in the rankings probably owes more to enough shoppers satiating their demand for Mario in that first week. Looking at the two week period since June 6, Mario outsold Wick by about 20%.

Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, based on the classic role-playing tabletop game, remained No. 3 for a second consecutive week on both charts, selling about 10% as many copies as the top title.

Wick, Mario and Dragons were also the top three sellers on the dedicated 4K disc chart in the same order.

The two-week tally on the Blu-ray chart saw Mario barely edge Wick, which sold 93.6% as many Blu-ray copies as Mario during the extended time frame. On 4K disc however, Wick had a 23% advantage, with Mario selling 76.7% as many 4K copies as the actioner.

The newly released The Pope’s Exorcist, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, debuted at No. 4 on both charts. The horror film stars Russell Crowe as Father Gabriele Amorth, a real-life priest who served as the exorcist for the Vatican. It earned $20 million at the domestic box office.

No. 5 on both charts was Universal’s horror comedy Renfield, in which the title character (Nicholas Hoult) seeks freedom from centuries of servitude under Dracula (Nicolas Cage).

HD formats accounted for 78% of John Wick: Chapter 4 unit sales for the week, with 31% from 4K Ultra HD disc and 47% from regular Blu-ray. Super Mario Bros. had 18% 4K sales and 46% regular Blu-ray for a total of 64%. The Pope’s Exorcist, not released on 4K, had 59% of its tally come from Blu-ray.
