It’s official. Super Bowl LVIII, which saw the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22, on the last play, is the most-viewed Super Bowl ever, according to new Nielsen data.

The rating firm said an average of 123.4 million people either watched the CBS, Nickelodeon, Univision broadcasts, and/or streaming platforms, which included Paramount+, CBS.com, CBS app and NFL+. That broke last year’s record of 115.1 million viewers.

Nielsen said upwards of 200 million watched at least part of the game, which is up from 184 million during last year’s Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

Media observers contend the close game and massive pre-game hype surrounding Taylor Swift’s attendance — flying in from her Eras Tour concert stop in Tokyo — helped lift non-football fan viewership.
